              During
the mid 1800's, this area was the site of a Hudson's Bay Company
store and Frank Richter, who's homestead was the first in the
area. The community was later named for R.L. Cawston, a pioneer
                rancher and magistrate.

              Keremeos
is an Interior Indian word with three meanings: "wind channel
in the mountains", "land cut in the middle" and/or
"where the creek sinks away". The area attracts a variety
of visitors including those interested in history, rocks, hiking
and sun-worshipping. The nearby waterways attract avid anglers
and canoeists. Visit galleries and shops, fruitstands and orchards
to sample the area's freshest produce. Tour wineries, the historic
Keremeos Grist Mill, museums or the basalt rock columns.

              The
community of Hedley lies in the valley of 20 Mile Creek and was
named after a man who had grubstaked many of the prospectors in
the times when Hedley prospered in the mining industry. The rock
cliffs to the west of town give visitors a chance to view the
folded rock strata, the openings of mining shafts and mine buildings.
