Location: This large, beautiful lake is located in the spectacular Chehalis Valley which is on the north side of the Fraser River across from the town of Chilliwack. The 10 km. (6 mi.) long lake is reached by turning north off Hwy. #7 at the community of Harrison Mills. Use the Morris Valley Road and then turn off onto the Fleetwood Road running along the Chehalis River. A truck is usually recommended for the last 13 km. (8.1 mi.) of gravel road. Despite the large size of the lake there are only three access points. Campsites are located at the south and north ends and at midlake. The numerous backroads and trails in the area make it an extremely attractive area for hiking, 4x4 exploring, dirt biking or sightseeing.

Resorts & Campsites: There are 3 primitive BCFS campsites on the lake; at the south and north ends and at midlake. The south end has a concrete boat launch, the midlake area has a gravel area for boat launching. The north end has no vehicle access to the beach and the shoreline can make even cartop launching a challenge. Non of the campsites are really suitable for motorhome access. The north end campsite has the nicest beach area. Facilities, services and accommodations are available at Harrison Mills or Agassiz.

Fishing Report: The extensive, indented shoreline of the lake makes Chehalis a boater's or fisher's paradise. There are numerous coves and bays to explore and fish. Although most of the lake is very deep, the areas around the south end, where it is shallower, are often very productive. Gang trolls and worms have been found to be very effective for Dolly Varden; some reaching up to 12 lbs. Where the river empties into the lake at Skwellepil Park, is a favourite spot for trout to be taken from shore or boat. Fishing may be restricted during periods of logging.

Viewscape: Pure wilderness in all directions with views of spectacular mountains nearby. The rugged terrain is interspersed with raging streams or meandering creeks. A photographer's paradise.

Shoreline: The extensive shoreline that drops quickly into the lake, is full of intriguing coves and streams to explore.

Nearby Lakes

Olive and Wilson Lakes - Olive and Wilson are small lakes of 8 ha. (20 ac.) and 47 ha. (116 ac.) respectively. Olive lies at an elevation of 1015 m. (3329 ft.) and in 1988/89 was stocked with Cutthroat trout. A 4x4 truck is recommended and the final access is a hike of 3 km. (1.9 mi.). Wilson Lake is found at an elevation of 833 m. (2732 ft.) and is a Rainbow stocked lake. A 4x4 truck is recommended to get to the lake.
